Based in the beautiful state of Arkansas, I love seersucker and bourbon and porches and barbecue; everything about the old and new South.
I’m a lawyer by trade, and a foodie by obsession. I’m a food judge at heart and am a legit certified BBQ judge (I regularly judge the Memphis in May World Championship and the American Royal and tons of other contests for the Kansas City Barbecue Society), I’m a Prime Steak Judge (traveling all over the South for the Steak Cookoff Association), and I also judge other fun contests like the Duck Gumbo World Championship and the World Cheese Dip Championship. It’s a ton of fun.
I photograph my travels and write about the food I eat and love to cook. Real food. Sometimes elegant, often not. To paraphrase Aaron Franklin, some days I have way more passion than skill. I’m married to a vegetarian, so many of my recipes are vegetarian or vegetarian-friendly. I take all my own photos, and have a real passion for catching artists in their moment.
Twenty-five years ago I made the decision to go to law school instead of cooking school. About 15 years ago I moved my law practice from Washington, D.C. to Little Rock, Arkansas, and have never looked back. Arkansas is a wonderful state, truly the Natural State, and is full of fun, interesting people, neat places to see and things to do, and it comes with a very low-key lifestyle. Just perfect.
